If you are struggling to find a new job, here are four things you should do to get yourself back on track: Take some time to recharge It’s completely normal to feel burned out over a job search that has gone on longer than you anticipated. If this is the situation you find yourself in, it’s okay to take a step back to recharge your batteries. Whether this is for a week or a month, taking a break can not only help you avoid burnout, but it can also give you time to refresh your perspective on what opportunities you’re most interested in pursuing. Ask for feedback from your peers If you’re having a hard time pinpointing why you’re struggling to find a new job, don’t be afraid to ask your peers or a professional mentor for advice! This is especially true if your routine has become monotonous or you are struggling to identify the things that might discourage a hiring manager from connecting. For example, there may be an issue with your resume and cover letter that you aren’t seeing, but a fresh set of eyes will identify immediately. Additionally, be open to any constructive criticism that the people you’re asking can provide. Keep in mind that they’re trying to help you, so it’s important for you to be open to any suggestions they may have. Put some time into learning new skills An outdated skillset is definitely one thing that could be keeping you from finding a new career opportunity. If you’re still struggling to find a new job after an extended period of time, you’ll want to compare your skillset to the requirements in the jobs you are applying to. Then, you’ll want to consider enrolling in courses or workshops that can introduce you to skills you haven’t had time to learn in the past. Reach out to a recruiter If you’re still struggling to find a new job, consider reaching out to a recruiter who can help point you in the right direction. As experts in their respective industries, a recruiter can often give you insight you may not have found otherwise. Additionally, a recruiter will have industry connections that you may not have, so connecting with one could ultimately put you in line for an opportunity that’s perfect for you! Comments are closed.
