MCEDC: Support for Small Business Owners

The Morris County Economic Development Corporation is committed to assisting businesses succeed by adhering to our mantra, to create, innovate, and grow.  We offer a variety of resources, such as peer-to-peer forums, counseling services and professional development opportunities, developed especially for solo-preneurs, entrepreneurs and small business owners.  We have a passion to serve and to see our business community succeed and thrive!       

The EDC hosts a monthly roundtable with diverse entrepreneurial business owners that share their business experiences, challenges, successes, and first-hand advice on how they are navigating successfully through these uncertain times.  The roundtable is a private group where business owners can be vulnerable and have a safe place to share, where the group is a source of help by providing sound advice that comes from their first-hand business’ experiences.      

​We also offer one on one consultation with our Director of Business Resources and Professional development to help your small business succeed.  If you need help setting up your accounting systems, software, chart of accounts, registering your business, developing a marketing strategy, or even if you need HR Advice, the EDC is able to help.  We are even in the process of developing a virtual mall where small businesses will be able to enter the digital world of e-commerce.  We are determined to help the small business owner, minority owned, Hispanic and Black owned businesses, by leveling the playing field, through our diversity and inclusion initiatives which help businesses become more visible, and competitive, virtually and physically in the consumer public square.  One of the greatest resources for the EDC is the Morris County Chamber of Commerce, as we can recommend essential resources needed by all businesses, for example we have experts in business law, accounting, marketing, digital marketing, insurances, banking, advertisement, coaches, consultants, professional development experts, real estate, and so much more. 

The EDC is currently creating a new platform called the EDC Learning Management System, (LMS). This will enable the entrepreneur take courses from the privacy of their home, sharpening their sills in, sales, marketing, public speaking, accounting, social skills, to include the importance for managers and leader’s today to grow in Emotional Intelligence.  We also offer great information concerning reopening in New Jersey and different resources that may be valuable to your business. Here at the EDC we value our business relationships and are always looking to partner with organizations like the New Jersey Business Action Center, which provides the following services to businesses of all sizes in Morris County and throughout the state of New Jersey:

• Customized summary of resources is created to identify, describe, and quantify all government grants and financing programs available to support business expansion, retention, and consolidation projects throughout the state NJSTEP grant awards to help eligible small businesses participate in internationally-focused trade shows or trade missions
• Project management services from knowledgeable business advocates to guide companies through complex projects, government incentive grant and financing programs, approvals, and grant compliance
• Expert consultants and facilitators for workforce training grants, talent recruitment, and energy efficiency programs
• Government navigation guidance and support for business seeking state and local permits and regulatory approvals
• Business real estate reports and corporate facility site searches
• Business call center for guidance on incorporating, small business and minority certifications, and licensing and financing programs
• Emergency call center for help to restore businesses following hurricanes, storms, and other disasters
• Redevelopment guidance and government agency coordination for municipalities and developers
• Promote growth services and disseminate information to help businesses of all sizes at conferences, meetings and events.
