Homeless Solutions provides a Hand UP, not a HandOUT. We empower those who are homeless and at risk of homelessness in Morris County to attain housing stability. In the coldest months of the winter, Homeless Solutions is asking Morris County residents to give up one night of warmth and comfort to raise awareness of the growing needs of the unhoused in our community. Its 4th Annual A Night in the Cold fundraiser is on Friday, December 1st. Funds raised from this event will support the organization’s efforts to provide shelter, services, and stability to those without accommodations especially in the cold winter season. This year’s goal is to raise $250,000. Throughout the night participants (individuals/groups/teams) will sleep in their yards, cars, or garages in solidarity with those without a home.
The event begins with a live virtual check-in and remarks from Homeless Solutions’ CEO Dan McGuire. Mr. McGuire will be spending the night outside of the organization’s administrative offices with a small cohort of other participants including local dignitaries and sponsors, formerly homeless guests of Homeless Solutions and staff. During the night, participants are encouraged to stay connected through social media challenges and check-ins. Follow along using the hashtag #HSINIGHTINTHECOLD. A Night in the Cold was created in 2020 in response to one of the hardest years Americans faced due to the global pandemic. The event has continued to grow each year as the needs of the unsheltered community in Morris County continue to rise. From June 2022 to June 2023 the number of people on the waitlist for shelter has risen 76%. Currently, there are 547 individuals, 48 couples and 169 families on the waitlist seeking shelter. And the numbers continue to climb. Celebrating 40 years of service, Homeless Solutions continues to be an essential part of the Morris County community by providing a continuum of housing options, including their Main Shelter, Transitional Housing Program (THP) for families, Mt. Kemble Home for senior women, Warming Center for street homeless people during the winter season, and 106 Affordable Housing units they own and operate in 5 municipalities across the county. To those not able to participate, but who wish to support the organization and its mission, all donations can be made here: www.anightinthecold.com Comments are closed.
