Morris County Chamber of Commerce and Family Service of Morris County Partner
to Help Troops Call Home During Holidays
Morristown, NJ – November 21, 2008 – The Morris County Chamber of Commerce and Family Service of Morris County have announced a partnership to help military personnel call home during the holidays. The effort is specifically designed to benefit the 400 soldiers currently deployed from the Dover and Morristown armories.
In 2007, the Morris County Chamber of Commerce signed a covenant with the NJ National Guard and Picatinny Arsenal to provide for the welfare of families of deployed military personnel. The Chamber pledged to lead the business community in identifying available community resources that could be directed to assisting our troops and their families.
Lee Moreau, Director of Morale, Welfare and Recreation at Picatinny Arsenal stated “What is really neat about this business initiative is that it will deliver exactly what the National Guard troops asked for and it doesn’t get any better than that! It is amazing and wonderful to see the citizens of Morris County support Soldiers & Families who suffer family separations to defend our way of life.”
The Chamber’s goal is to raise $4,000 so that each of the 400 deployed soldiers receives a $10 pre-paid phone card providing 150 minutes of air time. Chamber president Paul Boudreau said, “I know that our troops will appreciate this support from the citizens and businesses of Morris County. We wanted in some way to acknowledge their sacrifice and give them an opportunity to connect with their loved ones.”
Anyone wishing to donate can make their check to Family Service of Morris County and mail it by December 12, to the Morris County Chamber of Commerce, 25 Lindsley Drive, Morristown, NJ 07960. Questions about the program can be directed to the Chamber at 973-539-3882 x231.
