Emergency Preparedness and Business Continuity

In 2001 post 9/11, the Morris County Prosecutor, requested that the Morris County Chamber of Commerce form the Infrastructure Advisory Group (IAG) to mirror the private sectors represented in the State Infrastructure Advisory Committee (IAC).  This was done, and a project to establish a private sector involvement in emergency response was undertaken by the Morris County Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with Picatinny Arsenal and the Steven’s Institute. 

Today the IAG Addresses all hazards response and business continuity including: Natural Disasters (including weather), Pandemic, Biochemical, Power failures, Fires etc.  Annually the Chamber holds a preparedness conference – which for the two past years featured Richard Cañas, Director NJ Homeland Security and Preparedness. 

The IAG Committee is made up of representative of the following sectors:

Private Sector:

Chemical
Communications
Cultural / Entertainment
Education / Research
Food
Finance and Prof. Svc.
Health
Real Estate
Transportation
Utilities

The mission of the Preparedness Committee is to:

• Maintain communications between public sector and private industry
• Develop standards private industry
• Develop best practices
• Plan for:
  • Response,
  • Contingency
  • Continuity of business operations
• Identify key asset vulnerabilities – recommend approaches
• Preplan assets available for public sector deployment
