"My connection with the Morris County Chamber of Commerce has allowed me to understand what the most important organizations are within the state. It has helped us from a branding perspective and where to focus our efforts."
Founded in 1991, Leadership Morris is a highly regarded community education program of the Morris County Chamber of Commerce. The Program teaches business professionals and not-for-profit executives about the opportunities, challenges, institutions and the people of Morris County.Participants benefit from an instant “in” to who’s who and what’s what in the community. Leadership Morris brings together a class of approximately 30 individuals of diverse backgrounds and experiences who are preparing for or who have demonstrated business leadership ability through community involvement. These individuals have an unprecedented opportunity to learn more about the challenges facing Morris County today. This is accomplished through a collegial network of class members who assemble monthly to experience the various venues first hand and directly interact with the key individuals involved.A key professional value added through participation is instant access to an active network of over 500 graduates who have pledged to respond actively to one another. Also, through representation by the class member, the organization he or she represents is placed among the community’s leading organizations that are actively engaged in shaping the future of Morris County. Class members are also exposed to the contribution and inner workings of over 50 non-profit service organizations in Morris County. As graduates they are encouraged to pursue service in elected, appointed, and volunteer roles.. Leadership Morris, under the direction of Dr. Joseph Nazzaro, offers participants a unique and exciting opportunity. Beginning with a retreat, during which participants start the process of team building and monthly thereafter, participants attend daylong field trips with seminars on carefully selected, high-priority topics, such as: Economic Development, Criminal Justice, Education, Human Needs & Services, Environment, Media Relations, County Government, State Government and Health Care. The seminars include lectures, panel discussions and small study groups. The program concludes with a Graduation Dinner in November and the opportunity to remain active in the organization through participation in the Leadership Morris Alumni Association.
The Leadership Achievement Award is presented annually to a Leadership Morris Alumni who displayed outstanding leadership by undertaking and completing a major project or program to benefit the community.
Dr. Joseph Nazzaro, Program Leader for Leadership Morris. Joe is retired as the Executive Director of Advancement & Planning at the County College of Morris.
